Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a focus on in-classroom application?

Every moment a support professional spends learning outside of a classroom is time away from the children who need them most. By embedding professional learning directly into the work environment, we decrease the time to competency while simultaneously providing participants with a deeper and more personalized training experience.

What is the Explore, Practice, Apply framework?

Classroom Ready uses an explore, practice, apply instructional model that allows participants to uncover learning in a risk-free environment and apply learning to a real-life classroom. Online asynchronous learning allows for independent study through a series of micro lessons providing theoretical foundations of core concepts, which are then connected in a practical way through job-embedded learning. After the implementation, participants actively reflect on the strategy and are assessed using established real-world rubrics. On-the-job learning happens under the guidance of a cooperative teacher who has demonstrated excellent classroom practice.

How do participants demonstrate skills they have learned?

Participants use a skills demonstration rubric to measure mastery of observable skills. As they complete course assignments, they receive feedback on their work from the program coach. At the end of the program, participants complete a competency-based assessment.

What is the overall time commitment for the program participants?

The Classroom Ready program consists 90 hours in the classroom and up to 60 hours online over 13 weeks.

Are teachers allowed to participate in Classroom Ready?

Classroom Ready is a comprehensive orientation to the classroom. If you have teachers who would benefit from the program, they are welcome to participate.

Is there a limit on the number of educators who can participate at a site?

A cooperative teacher can support two participants in the Classroom Ready program at a time. Our team will work with partners to design an implementation plan that ensures consistency and supportive learning in the cooperative teacher’s own classroom.

If we have more than one location, can we have a cooperative teacher at each site?

An organization may have more than one location implementing the Classroom Ready program. Each work-based learning site should have a cooperative teacher.

Do we have to have a coach?

Early Learning Indiana will provide the cohort coach to facilitate the program. Partners will need to designate a cooperative teacher at the participant’s work-based learning site.

What if a participant is struggling with the program? How will we know?

The cohort coach will monitor pace and completion of modules — including remediation if needed — and coordinate with the work-based site leadership and cooperative teacher.

What type of training does the cooperative teacher complete before working with participants?

In addition to the logistics and content of the program, cooperative teachers will receive training in conducting observations, providing effective feedback and serving as a mentor.

What if a cooperative teacher leaves during the program?

If unforeseen circumstances impact your ability to implement Classroom Ready, our team can help troubleshoot the implementation plan.

How can participants use their Classroom Ready program credential toward credit-based programs?

Our team can help connect you with options for credit-based programs through Purdue Global and Ivy Tech.

How is the content reviewed and updated?

Early Learning Indiana will regularly review and update the Classroom Ready program. Participants are encouraged to provide feedback throughout the program.

Is there a cost for my organization to participate?

We are excited for you to participate in Classroom Ready. With the generous support of Lilly Endowment Inc., we are happy to offer the program at no financial cost to participating non-profit organizations. We will keep cost considerations at the forefront as we continue to expand the program.

What is the stipend for a cooperative teacher?

Cooperative teachers receive a $250 stipend when a participant completes the Classroom Ready program.
