Current Challenges in Child Care

Early education and child care are essential to Indiana’s workforce and economy, yet new survey data from August 2025 shows a system under increasing strain. For the 443 providers responding across 67 counties, looming closures could eliminate nearly 1,400 child care seats. If the same proportion holds true statewide, the impact would be a loss of 10,000 seats – about 5% of total statewide capacity – within the next twelve months.
